Q. Do I need a permit through Norwich Township for items such as fences, decks, swimming pools, screened porches, room additions, etc?
A. For residents that reside in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township, all zoning issues fall under the Franklin County Board of Planning and Zoning. Please contact them directly at (614) 525-3095 before beginning such projects. For residents that reside in the City of Hilliard, please contact the Hilliard Building Department at (614) 334-2557 for permits.
Q. Who do I contact to collect my trash and recycling?
A. Norwich Township contracts Local Waste Services for trash collection. Call (614) 409-9375 to begin your service. For residents that reside in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township, Local Waste Services will drop off recycling bins if needed or you may pick up a bin at the Norwich Township Administration Offices at the Safety Services Building, located at 5181 Northwest Parkway, between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Q. Who do I contact to get a Radon Test Kit?
A. The Franklin County Public Health Department has a limited supply of short term radon test kits available to residents of Franklin County. These kits are no longer available at the Township Offices. To request a free Short Term Radon Test Kit, please visit www.myfcph.org and click on Radon, in the Popular Links area.
Q. Does Norwich Township use 9-1-1 as an emergency number?
A. Yes. The NRECC (Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center) dispatchers answer emergency 9-1-1 calls from residents in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township and the City of Hilliard. Depending on the call, the dispatcher will either notify the Hilliard Police Department or the Norwich Township Fire Department immediately of the situation.
Q. Who provides police services to Norwich Township?
A. Norwich Township contracts with the Hilliard Police Department to provide police services to all residents in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township.
Q. Can I cover or landscape over the sewer manhole lid that is in my yard?
A. No. Do not cover, bury or block any sewer manhole lid. This makes it very hard to clear backups or run any kind of maintenance on the systems.
Q. Who provides water services to Norwich Township?
A. Residents of Ridgewood and the City of Hilliard receive their water from the City of Columbus. Residents of Timberbrook receive their water from the Aqua America, Inc. Q. What do I do if my water is discolored or foul tasting?
A. If the water looks or smells bad, do not drink, cook, clean or bathe with the water. If you are a resident of Ridgewood or the City of Hilliard, contact the City of Columbus Division of Water at (614) 645-7691. If you are a resident of Timberbrook, contact the Aqua America, Inc. at (877) 987-2782.
Q. Do I need a permit for my security system?
A. For residents that reside in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township, a permit for a security system is not currently required. For residents that reside in the City of Hilliard, permits are required for home security systems. Permits may be obtained from the Hilliard Police Department by calling (614) 876-7321. Permits are $25.00 for a 2-year period.
Q. What do I do if I have a fallen tree on my property?
A. Removal of fallen trees on private property is the property owner’s responsibility. Norwich Township and the City of Hilliard will remove trees that are blocking a road, a sidewalk or that have fallen within the Township/City’s right-of-way. To report a tree down within the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township during normal business hours, call (614) 876-2236. To report a tree down within the City of Hilliard during normal business hours, call (614) 876-7361. If it is after hours regardless of its location, please contact the Hilliard Police Department at (614) 876-7321.
Q. What is my property zoned?
A. For residents that reside in the unincorporated areas of Norwich Township, all zoning issues fall under the Franklin County Board of Planning and Zoning. Q. Who do I contact about community sports programs?
A. The Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department offers a wide range of different activities throughout the year. Please call them at (614) 876-5200 for more information. Q. How long is the term of office for the Norwich Township Trustees and Fiscal Officer?
A. The positions of Board of Trustee and Fiscal Officer each have a term of office of four (4) years. The Trustee term of office begins in January and the Fiscal Officer term of office begins in April. A. Each Norwich Township meeting has a public participation section where residents are given the opportunity to speak.
Q. How do I purchase a dog license?
A. Dog licenses can be purchased in person at the Franklin County Dog Shelter (1731 Alum Creek Drive) or the Fanklin County Auditor's Office (373 S. High Street, 21st Floor). You can also apply online at www.franklincountyauditor.com or receive a paper application by calling the Consumer Services Division at (614) 525-3260. You must provide proof of a current rabies vaccination before you are able to purchase a dog license for any dog or puppy three months of age or older.
Q. How do I report illegal dumping?
A. Franklin County residents can report littering or the illegal dumping of trash by calling the Nail-A-Dumper hotline at (614) 871-5322 or by visiting www.nailadumper.com. Both are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
