Spring Hydrant Flushing Has Begun

The Norwich Township Fire Department has begun spring hydrant flushing, which should be completed by July 1, 2019.  Fire hydrant flushing is necessary to ensure that adequate flow and pressure is available.  Flushing also removes sediment from the distribution pipes to maintain water clarity and quality.  Running hydrants will increase water flow through the system.

Hydrant flushing can sometimes make water appear rust-colored because it stirs up the iron and mineral deposits in the water.  It is safe to use and consume during hydrant flushing, however it may stain laundry.  To clear the discoloration, simply run water for about 2 minutes.
